IPU stands for Indeks Pencemaran Udara or Air Pollutant Index (API) is an indicator for the air quality status at any particular area within Malaysia.
API readings of between 0 and 50 are considered good, moderate (51 and 100), unhealthy (101 and 200), very unhealthy (201 and 300) and dangerous (exceeding 301).
The API is calculated based on five major air pollutants, namely sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ground level ozone (O3), carbon monoxide (CO) and particulate matter with a diameter below 10 micrometres (PM10).
